Lottery by Patricia Wood - a thought-provoking but easy, enjoyable read about a developmentally delayed man who wins the lottery

Monster of God: The Man Eating Predator in the Jungles of History and the Mind by David Quammen
Just finished reading this for the second time. Very entertaining and readable book on ecology of large predators and how human actions can preserve endangered species.

Amy, I love Barbara Kingsolver! I was transported by her Prodigal Summer, back to the hills of eastern KY. I was disappointed when that book ended because I was so involved in the lives of the characters. I'll definitely hunt down Animal, Veg, etc.

Good morning, fellow readers!

The most important tidbit about the book I just finished, "Look at Me", by Jennifer Egan, is that it is the book-of-the-month of ASU's online book club. Just having joined, I'm reluctant to give the group (organized under the aegis of the Virginia Piper School of Creative Writing) an all out green light. Still, it's great to read books one wouldn't necessarily select on her/his own and (particularly for non-English majors like moi) it's fascinating to see how different people react to the same book. Here's the website:
http://www.asu.edu/pipercwcenter/bookclub/index.html.

About "Look at Me": definitely worth your time. Captures the current zeitgist[s] -- describes the "soup" of contemporary culture and what it is doing to our souls, our inner lives.

Happiest regards,

Paige
