Where the Pastor's Wife / Husband Can Climb Out of the Fishbowl

There are two or three (old) veterans in our church who are all upset that their "sacred" service cannot be during regular worship time. They claim it shows much disrespect for the veterans. Who do they blame...the pastor, of course! Even tho it was a committee decision. They get to have it later in the day which, to us, seems more respectful because then others in the community can attend and not miss their own worship service. Plus, there are others who served our country and didn't have to carry guns and kill people, for example, those who joined the Peace Corp. But do they whine about having a special service to recognize just them? NO!

Blame the pastor. That's just galling. Hmmm... maybe we could relate it to veterans . . . military mentality . . . no committee decisions in the military, everything decided by The Brass. Maybe?

We've had the usual fusses over the American flag in the sanctuary - or not. First it was for Veterans' Day, when it was NOT in the sanctuary, not by decision but because both the pastor and the worship committee simply forgot. Then the next Sunday was (close to ) Sept 11, and the flag WAS in the sanctuary, to the satisfaction of some and irritation of others. sigh.

Totally, how about a flag out front of the church? We are a culturally diverse church so want to take it down, but probably will end up raising more other cultures flags.
